I cut and baled 30 acres of alfalfa/orchard grass (central KY) last week. Always take my last cutting the last week of Sept. I'll cut OG and/or Timothy up to December if I think I can get it cured. Got caught on 60 acres of alfalfa and won't get it cut til maybe Oct 15 (rainy weather). I don't like cutting (alfalfa) this late more from curing than anything else, in fact I pasture it after last cutting until 1st of the year). I've heard about stand losses (old timers and older varieties). I have Alfagraze, Amerigraze 401, and Appollo Supreme. Some of the stands are 9 years old and I'm just now debating rennovation (yield about 4 tons of hay plus silage on the first cutting and grazing in the winter).
