Proper tongue weight is 10 to 15% of the total weight of the trailer empty or as loaded...You can tell as soon as you get started down the road....First make sure the load makes the truck *squat" a little 2 or 3" depends on the truck....as you drive down the road ....if the truck feels light in the front and "bouncy" too much tongue weight......if the trailer wants to "sway" the truck, side to side,not enough tongue wt......not enough is dangerous !!!!
