Different axle and Axle Housing lenghts on Allis-Chalmers G Tractor

I bought an Allis_Chalmers Model G parts tractor and it has Rear axles that are not the same length. One axle is approximately 8 inches shorter than the other. Was this done for some special purpose with these tractors? Thanks.
