When my daughter got married last February, my wife made the bridesmaid's dresses, we bought a wedding dress at a 2nd-hand shop, paid the preacher $75.00, my wife's co-workers(teachers) threw the reception. I had to pay $90 for a tuxedo. Another friend did the wedding pictures at cost. I gave my daughter the title to her car, forgave the money she still owed me. I think the whole deal might have cost $500, plus the balance of the loan on the car. A friend married off his daughter last fall. She had a NEW dress(several $K) gobs of flowers, custom gowns for the attendants, professional photographer, I did the video, gratis. Married at the church. Reception at the country club, more food than a little bit, open bar(a Baptist tradition....? I don't THINK so...) Limousine, little trinkets and doo-dads and goodies, wallet-sized photos of the bride for everyone, custom vellum wedding programs, engraved invitations, dee-jay at the reception, gifts for the attendants, etc, etc. I think if he got out for $19K he would have been lucky. Tell Tootsie-Belle that she's gonna have to forgo all the splendiferous stuff, if you can't afford it. Weddings and funerals shouldn't have to require a 2nd mortgage on the farm.
