My local tranny shop and others has a machine that flushes the tranny completely, including the torque converter and tranny cooler. Yes, changing the fluid will fix your problem. Be sure to use Mercon V spec tranny fluid, NOTHING else (especially GM limited slip additive). The problem you have sounds like torque converter shudder, it happens when the oil breaks down and the converter cannot lock-up properly. Happens on my Tbird every 25,000 miles. Click here to see common problems, look under "torque coverter shudder" If you get your tranny fluid changed/flushed ASAP I would say you will be OK. Should cost around $100 to $150 at a Ford dealer or GOOD tranny shop. If you don't believe me, go to the link and read some articles - yes I know they are about Thunderbirds, but a lot of it applies to any Ford.
