If the only gasoline is in the cars tanks shouldn't have too much to worry about. We have 2 shops, 1 is heated with a barrel wood stove. It's 28'x48'. Can keep it pretty tolerable. Other one is smaller, about 30'x36'. I've got a twin burner propane heater. I've worked with those kero heaters, gave them away (can't take the fumes). I like the propane a lot better than the wood. It's hot when I want it and off when I don't, no odor. Doesn't cost any more than wood, even using my $7.00/hr farm hands to cut it. Only thing I worry about is painting. Have to get a lot of fire to get it warm enough to paint and there is some hazard of flash fire.
