I wouldn't be afraid of buying these calves although I agree to make sure they have been well started as to colostrum and such. I'm always amazed as to how some people feel that smaller breeds such as Jersey are so much more fragile than any other breed. This is simply not true, I milk guernseys here in Wisc. and hear the same stories and jokes as everyone else about the colored breeds. Simply put these colored breed steers will make some of the best tasting beef you can get. Used to have half guernsey and half holstien herd, sold the black and whites and have never regretted it, feed efficiency is so much better. I always tell people that cows are like television sets; once you get color you never go back yo black and white.
