First suggestion would be to lower the horsepower
class, unless you have very deep pockets. Going
80-100 HP brings you well into the 60's, with
plenty of detail components, unproven then. You
could buy a second 'donor' 50 HP tractor parked
by a tree, of fifties vintage. What do you plan
to use it for? If you bought a 88 HP 4010, with
a bad engine, did the O-H, to discover the syncro
mesh transmission was failing, what then? Shops
want $50. per hour, no relief when you begin
buying the parts. Restoring 'big' tractors loses
the fun, when you have to pass the work to a more
professional mechanic. Buying an I&T Shop Manual,
OP Manual, and Parts Manual, for your older 50 HP
tractor will put you in restoration mode.
