First question I would ask is does it have a full flow or bypass filter. If full flow, then change the filter often at the change-over to prevent unfiltered oil going round the engine if there is a bypass (as well as watching the pressure if it doesn't). If it only has a bypass filter, be very carefull if the motor is badly sludged as oil pressure only indicates pressure in the gallery, not flow to individual bearings. Lost oil flow to governor on Oliver 90 once, and overhead valve gear are probably at most risk....but...crank or rod failure can occur. When completely clean it generally just depends on how oil control on pistons is working - some engines will start to oil pump and use a lot of oil especially if the ring side clearance suddenly becomes much bigger due to varnish removal in the ring grooves Regards, RAB
