No reason not to use the coil as long as you use the correct value external resistor with it. most any Ford resistor for a point ignition system will be correct for the aprox 4 amp draw of the primary windings. Do not use a Chrysler resistor as most Chrysler point systems draw around 3 amps and will cause too much voltage drop on a Ford 4 amp coil. Another thing to watch with a Ford coil is the polarity of the primary wiring. The primary terminals on many Ford coils are marked IGN and DIST instead of + and - If your tractor,like the Ford has a 12V neg ground system,then the IGN and DIST markings will be correct. If the tractor has a POS ground system,then the terminals would need to be reversed.
