Depends on how soft the sand is. Can you drive on it without getting stuck? Here in Illinois, I have experience launching Hobie cats off the very soft sand beaches of Lake Michigan. Normal tractors, 4x4's, etc. just get stuck in the soft sand. We found the best deal for the Hobies was a beach dolly, basically an axle with two low pressure ATV tires mounted on it. There used to be a guy up in Zion who wanted to launch sailboats from a trailer, pulled with an older 5 wheel John Deere Gator. He found he couldn't do it, the trailer wheels sunk in the sand. I fixed the problem for him by mounting ATV tires on his trailer. Of course, then he couldn't pull the trailer down the highway, but that wasn't a concern for him. Up at Racine, WI. they use a tractor to tow their beach cleaning machine. It sifts the sand and gets out all the trash. Both the tractor and the machine are equiped with large, low pressure tires. The tractor tires look like turf tires, like you'd see on a mowing machine, but I'd bet they're actually something special. My experience has been on soft sand you need large, low pressure tires. Most tires have too stiff a carcass, and won't spread the weight out enough for soft sand.

A copse of wildbreaking silver birch and oak trees surround the top si
