I would think they would use a steel pump for long life. I know that the auto industry had/has a lot of problems in their auto transmissions when they went to aluminum housing pumps in them. Of course alum is easier/cheaper to machine and they sell more parts and service. With auto's their excuse was weight savings and mileage, who wants to save weight on a tractor!! Just cheaper.
