I found this service bulletin on John Deer's website and found it kind of ironic. I wonder how long it will be before they will post something like this for the other sizes of tractors in the 4000 TEN line. I couldn't guess why their transmissions are failing. Maybe they should look at where the debris is coming from instead of changing the filter. Also I guess if you have already put 50 hours on the machine your out of luck. This proves that they just want to band-aid the problem instead of solving it. Service Interval Change and Improved Hydrostatic Filter for 4200/4300/4400 CUT Question How can I improve the performance of my hydrostatic transmission? Answer Affected Equipment 4200H (120002-221594), 4300H (130002-221594), 4400H (140004-241783), 4600H (166001-267042), 4200E (120050-328999), 4300E (133001-339499), 4400E (144001-348999), 4600E (166001-368999) Symptoms The hydrostatic transmission (HST) loses performance and fails. Situation or Problem Wear on the HST pistons and slippers is accelerated due to the following: The HST filter is too small to capture the debris, resulting in the element plugging and the filter going into relief. Water may be homogenized in the oil. Solution Steps Step 1: Increase HST oil change interval: Before 50 hours: Change the oil and filter. Clean the suction screen. Each 200 hours: Change the oil filter. Each 400 hours: Change the oil and filter. Clean the suction screen. Step 2: Replace the AM102723 Oil Filter with a larger more efficient LVA10419 Oil Filter Step 3: If you have followed all of the above recommendations and are still having performance problems, contact your local John Deere Dealer.
