Both my father and father in law suffer significant hearing impairment from decades of running machinery and shooting without hearing protection - I don't want to wind up like them. So I've used insertion ear plugs since the late 60's when I was still a teenager. Not only for running tractors, but also for chainsawing, running power tools, even walking behind the lawnmower. A couple years ago my son gave set of sound attenuating muffs with a built-in FM radio. They're great for tractoring, etc. - they attenuate background noise as well as plugs, and let me enjoy music or a ballgame at the same time without turning it up loud. Only problem is the muffs are hot in warm weather, and they pick up ignition interference some certain older magneto-equipped machines
