Hi Carl, Veggie oils have a very good lubicating value. They can even be used for engine oil but theres not very much posted info for this application. I've read one University study that 2% veggie oil added to #1D fuel oil equals the lube value of #2D ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel. I've been looking into using veggie oils for fuel oil replacing my #2D usage. Rapeseed oil seams to be a better quality of veggie oil than soy based for fuel oil, slightly more btu's with rapeseed. They have found that older rubber hose will deteriate when using B20 (20% veggie oil/80% #2D) so if using in older hydraulic hose I would expect you would need to replace the hoses very shortly. The new R100 hose is rated for veggie oil use. To use raw rapeseed oil as a fuel oil, it needs to be thined as it has 20 times the viscoity of #2D at 70*. At 45* a typical diesel will not start on B100 without being prewarmed. Alot of guys are starting there engines on #2D then switch over too B100 when warm using a coolant heat exchanger. 25% raw veggie oil can be used without any problems to the injection system and without any modifications. Another University study. Any raw veggie oil is not biodiesel as it still contains glycerin. B100, 100% biodiesel, is veggie oil with the glycerin removed. Glycerin is a heavy type wax of veggie oils. Here in Arizona I use 10w30 motor oil as a hydraulic oil. My pump is worn along with our summer abiment temps are high and thins the standard hydraulic oil too much. I've got about a 100 hours on my backhoe using motor oil without any problems. T_Bone
