On my '98 F150 I mounted the controller
ABOVE the inside rear view mirror just under
the upper windshield frame. Hid the wires
under the windshield trim to get under the
dash.

It's not in the driving visual field of view, and to
look at the controller (digital display) my eyes
are not very far off where i'm driving.

Also easy to reach to manually apply trailer
brakes.
