I would not give up on the tractor or dealer yet. Talk to dealer and try to neogiate with him. If he is honest then he will come to a comprimise with you. Odds are he didn't know the pto was bad.

Probably have better luck posting on the farmall board lots of knowledge over there. Have heard a lot of good things about the 300. I am an Oliver man and don't know a lot about Farmalls.
