I just rebuilt a 300 front to back. The good news is that it sounds like a broken bearing or chipped gear. Parts are cheap, but labor isn't unless you do it yourself. Pull the rear pto unit and inspect the gears. Most likely the problem will be in the forward part of the transmission housing. Remove the inspection plates(seasonal disconnect) on the lower part of the T/A housing to get a good look. You may be able to fix the bearings without spliting the tractor in half.
