: : Is there anyway to test a generator on a Ford 2000 without taking it off of the tractor? I got a new regulator, but that didn't do the job. : : Thanks in advance : : Michael Hughes : Michael I also have a Ford 2000 (1964). You can test the generator by attaching a volt meter to the battery and then, with the engine running, jump the "batt" and "field" posts on the regulator (those are the two outside ones). This bypasses the regulator and the generator should put out full voltage at that point. You probably need to run the engine up to 1500 or so RPM since the generator is pretty much freewheeling at idle and may not show you anything. This won't test how much load your generator can take but it will confirm if it is completely dead or not.
