The original setup had a taper in the manifold and a matching taper on the muffler. The two ears used bolts to snug the tapers together. Old ones are sometimes very tight in the manifold. Hacksaw and portable grinders of several types may be necessary to remove the old part from the manifold. Careful about hammering that old cast iron! Perhaps consider buying a new muffler specifically for the M first and examine it for the taper. It may suggest a plan for removing the old piece. Been there, done that.
