Are you sure it is timed correctly? Did you do a valve job when you rebuilt the engine? Valves and seats must be good. Even if you ground them, or put in new ones, you must check and be sure that they seat properly. Also, you might double check valve clearance on the rocker arms. I know that is all common knowlegde stuff, but sometimes it never hurts to hit the basics again. If you know for sure all that stuff is good, I would lean toward a fuel mixture problem or a gasket problem.
