Actually irrigation engines don't run full rpm's while working. They run in the most efficient rpm band, usually around 1600-1800 rpm. And while using a tractor, at least the way I do it, the throttle is set and only moves when I stop to eat lunch, change fields, add seed, or hit a wet spot and open it up. None the less, these things can run continously at the same rpm's and not be bothered.
