installing hydraulic pump?

I have an old Bolens 1886 Garden Tractor that has built in hydraulics that run off of the charge pump for the hydrostatic transmisson. I built a loader a few years ago which works fine except it is asking too much of the charge pump and therefore I keep wearing out charge pumps. What I am doing now is installing an auxillary 6 gpm gear pump that will run off the pto. Then I will disconnect the spool valve from the charge pump and re-connect it to the auxillary pump. First thing I need to figure out is how big do I need to make the oil reservoir? Is there a rule of thumb or calculation to determine this? Secondly I'm concerned about the pressure from the new pump. The existing hydraulics on the tractor produces about 900psi (in new condition) at 3600rpm . The new auxillary pump produces 2200 psi at 4000rpm. I would like the new hydraulics to have about the same speed, power and feel as the existing hydraulics. Would it be better if I used a relief valve or used a larger diameter pulley to slow down the pump to lower the pressure? Thanks in advance for any advice Rick C Ballston Lake NY

When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and
