Hmm. Maybe I better not mention being young once and managing to destroy a brand new automatic transmission the exact same way. Same problems, lack of experience and too much cockyness. Didn't want to fit up right, but I kept cranking down the bolts. Managed to snap the bell housing, crush the main pump, and crack the front of the tranny housing and squish the torque converter. All because I didn't realize I didn't have the torque converter seated properly. We've all "been there, done that." And, we will be joining you again at various times in the near future!
