I agree with Hay Sam. You would be better off with a bigger truck. (In place of a smaller tractor)
I don't know what kind of truck/trailer you're using, but I haul a Massey-Ferguson 50 around on a 7000lb GVW trailer, behind a Toyota Tundra pick-up. Never had a problem yet.
I have even hauled my Deere 2440 (6500lbs, with wieghts) on the same trailer.
I would rather have a bigger truck sometimes, but I'll make due with what I've got.
