Plate's on the dash, like the others have said, but its also stamped on the left (as you are sitting on the seat) engine flange where the engine & rear end bolt together. This is tough to find-gotta use a wire brush & scrape paint off-its stamped w/those individual # stamps, so may not be straight. It'll be something like 4809716, (which is on my '44 SC). To tell the year, subtract 4 from the first two #'s (48-4= a 44 model, for the above example) for all the V, VA, S,D & LA series made before '53. All the '53's & '54's that I've ever seen started w/80. Older C & R series & maybe L series used a different formula to determine year, but I don't remember what it is, check the Case board.
