I think there's confusion about what non-detergent, heavy duty and multi vicosity oils. You can sometimes get a straight 30 weight which I wouldn't use in anything but a dirty old engine. Now there's an SAE 30 and sometimes with an added heavy duty or high detergent. This is the oil that I'd use which will keep a rebuilt engine cleaner. This oil is also mostly recommended for air cooled small tractor engines. The multi viscosity oils are more for modern close tolerance engines since there's more additives and less oil.
