transmission fluid mixed in with diesel fuel

I saw a guy changing the fuel filter on his 1999 Dodge with Cummings diesel and he was priming the fuel filter canister with transmission fluid. he said that he had heard that automatic transmission fluid was a good cleaning agent ad boosted the horsepower a little bit. has anyone ever heard of doing anything like this? I am far from knowing much about Diesels but I am not sure I want to do this to my 2003 Dodge. But who knows, it might be a good thing. Thanks,
