Did you rebuild the distributor or just replace the ignition components on it?
Make sure that you have the plug wires on right and be sure you have the right ignition timing. If the plug wires are on right, your ignition might be overly retarded. Also make sure your advance mechanism is working properly.
You might also check and see if you have sticking valves also. It's kinda common on these engines.
