Is the present ignition system a distributor? The "D" suffix on the engine model suggests that it is. If so, changing to a different distributor is not required. Changing to a coil with internal dropping resistor or adding an external resistor will handle the ignition system. If magneto, no changes to it are required when changing the charging sytem to 12 volts.
