It all depends on which engines you are comparing. Cat measures the horsepower at the rear wheels. Detroit measures it at the flywheel. I'm not sure about Cummins. If you compare a 475 Cat, 470 Detroit, and a 460 Cummins the Cat is the winner hands down. If you compare a 475 Cat, 500 Detroit, and a 500 Cummins then they are pretty much even. I have always liked the Cat engines but when I bought my truck I ended up with a Detroit because of price. Some friends of mine who run trucks over the road use only Cummins engines. I think they're all good engines.
