Vacum brakes are smoother in braking ,more reliable than Elec.no wires magnet to replace , some say slower than air if they are slower not by much Vacum brakes was used on most and the largest trucks untill air brakes came in to use about 1950 . Good system , best brakes for under 15,000 Lb. if your pulling truck did not have air brakes
