There can be problems up under the hood with the valve that is operated by a pin that moves on either side of center io a ramp, depending on which way the steering wheel is rotated. The "ramp" or pin that moves in contact with the "ramp" may wear, or become loose. Another common problem is down in the front of the steering unit, near the bottom front of the radiator. There is a vane "motor" that surrounds the steering shaft, and tugs the shaft along, in one direction, or the other, dependant upon the flow of oil from the previously mentioned valve. There is a stationary vane, pinned to the housing, and a moveable vane that is attached to the vertical steering shaft with a couple of bolts. The bolts are known to break, and the vane wedges in the housing. You have to take out the bolts that are in a circle around this housing, and lift of the whole top of the steering mechanism to check this out.
