Not sure what else you want to know. Butane has
not been made for a long time. ISO Butane is still
used to improve the Octane rating in gasoline.
Butane had a lower working pressure - 200lbs. It
was difficult to regulate the vapor pressure with
the changing of the seasons. LP Gas (HD-5) has a
working pressure of 250lbs. Butane would "freeze
off" (not create pressure) at -0- degrees. LP Gas
will not freeze off until -60 degrees. Some people
claim they got more horse power from Butane. In
the early days there was no standard for BTU's in
fuel. During the change from Butane to LP Gas it
was possible to "strip" the BTU'S from the LP
process and give the Butane more BTU's. The old
refinerys used towers. Each level made different
fuel. The bottom was where "road oil" (tar) was
made and the top was Butane or LP Gas. Before they
figured out a use for it, Butane was burned off at
the top of the stack. I have a bill from my
grandfathers estate. In 1950 he paid 3 cents a
gallon for Propane and 14 cents a gallon for
gasoline.
