If you are looking at JD and NH you are doing the right thing. Other makes exist---you can look at Ford, New Idea, AC, Oliver and IHC. They all will work, BUT, they're not popular for the reason that those companies never really put a lot of emphasis on developing decent hay equipment. The balers, mowers, MoCos and rakes built by those companies are all considered 3rd or 4th string choices and prices reflect this. While the modern parts departments of the HEIRS of thos companies MIGHT have parts, they will probably not show much enthusiasm. Still, rakes are very simple and durable, with few parts which CAN break or cause problems, so IF you do a good job of checking whatever old brand or rake you can find out, you can probably save a few $$$ over a much more popular JD or NH rake!
