Never had a beaver problem, but the old kind of Listerine mouthwash (the vile tasting yellowish stuff) works really good in keeping dogs from getting into stuff. Maybe it'll work on beavers too. Watch out for the worse case scenerio though, if they all start having fresh breath, and seem more atractive to each other they'll probably start have more little beavers, course then they don't have time to mess with your hedge... so you win that way too.....HA HA Seriously, I've tried the Listerine trick with my dogs, and had several friends used the trick too and it worked. I like all the other ideas too though. There are many ways to solve just about any problem, just depends on how extreme you want or need to get to solve it.
