Spot Putty Question (tractor tin) ???

Finishing up some body work on tractor tin and I have a question. I started with bare metal and have used regular body filler (Bondo) and have shaved and sanded that down. Next step is the spot putty for small imperfections, scratches and edge-feathering, etc. Should I put a coat of primer on the bare metal/body filler before using the spot putty? Or should I just used it as things are now (body filler and bare metal)?
