I just recently welded a hole in the block of a perkins 3 cyl diesel from my MF 231. The previous owner ran it out of oil. I was a 3 inch hole. I made a patch out of cast iron from another motor block. I used a cast rod where no pre heat is necessary. In my case it worked good. Every one I talked to had a different idea on welding cast. Isn't it funny how you never see the problems on a recent purchase until you get home. I bought a JD 5020 the first year had to replace the clutch input shaft seal. This year it is sitting in the field with a broken axle.
