My IH uses stabilizer bars instead of chains. When using both the bush hog was very stiff behind the tractor. No sway at all but I bent one accidently and just used the one this past fall. The bush hog had a little bit of play to it but I didn't notice any difference in the way it operated or followed the tractor.
