Well my dad likes to use his pocket knife and scrape all the paint off of them butt then again he can't walk by an old tractor with dirt on it that he has to scrape it off... Soaking in cleaner works good but I would also get a can or two of carb cleaner and spray every hole inside ofi t also. We know a guy who just soaks them and even after that there is sometimes small pieces that clog the needles up. We have sandblasted a couple with good results but those were taken all the way down and then cleaned thoughorly afterwards. So far no problems but anything can happen.
