The term SPAM for unsolicited commercial email comes from an old Monty Python's Flying Circus - a truly bizarre British comedy program from the 1970s - skit in which every food item in a restaurant has Spam - the meat product - with it. The computer geeks grabbed that and ran so that every unsolicited email and usenet post became SPAM. Since no one knows what usenet is anymore, it's now just for email. There are days when 100% of my email is SPAM.
