i spent a considerable amount of time around the IH construction equipment from the late 60's to early 90's. Operated a new IH TD 25C logging tractor in 1969 with the DT 817 in it. IH (Hough) used the same engine in the H100 and H120 articulated loaders. When Dresser owned Hough, they used a Cummins engine. The main reason for not using the DT 817 engine in a wheel tractor was physical size and horsepower output. In the 70's, IH did not have a tractor which could handle a 300+ HP engine. I bought a new IH 1566 in late 1976 and it had the reliable DT 436 putting out about 160 HP. The IH 4100 and 4300 were distant cousins of the Hough Payloaders such as H80, H100 and H120. All of this equipment was made by the Construction division, Frank S. Hough Co, and not by Farmall. Ray
