Hi Mark, I tried sending you an Email directly but it didn't go through. I have just done major work on my IH-340 Utility by replacing the entire steering gear assembly with one from an IH-460. Email me at TV4fish@aol.com. Based on my experience, check to make sure you have lubricant in the steering gear housing. There is a plug on the upper left side of the housing that you should unscrew (1/2") and make sure you have Hy-Trans fluid in there. You might have the steering gear shaft and the lever shaft not "meshing" properly. You can adjust that clearance. Be careful with whatever you do, if something breaks in there, it's a pain in the butt (and spendy) to fix. Tom V.
