Many/most of the newer smaller John Deere's are Yanmars. They are ok. However if you buy a Yanmar be sure and get one that you can get parts for. The Grey market Yanmars can be very difficult to get parts for. As others have said get one with a 3 point hitch and a live PTO. 30 hp or more should be about right for your needs.
