I'm a rigger by trade and live in the northeast. It seems the past few years the majority of all the work has been shop closings, whether it's a small mom and pop outfit or 500 plus employees the underlying theme is always we can't compete with China or they are moving the operation to China. I've had a few people tell me China can sell a finished part for less than the raw material costs here in the states. As far as quality goes, a guy at a forge shop told me it used to be bad but not it's damn good stuff. I'm 30 years old, in another twenty I'll probably be working at wal-mart.
