Once when I was a junior machinist I broke a long drill bit off inside a piece of aluminum that I had a lot of time into (expensive mistake to the boss). I struggled with getting the bit out for a while and gave up.

An "old timer" told me to put the whole part in the freezer for a few hours. I thought he was kidding me, expected him to tell me to give the copper magnet a try next. Eventually he begged me into it.

A few hours later I got the frozen part out of the freezer. When I was walking back to put it in the vise I happened to turn it over and the broken drill bit fell out onto the floor. Since then that advice has saved me a few times.
