Farmall M duel fuel sediment bowl

Fuel leakage around the shaft of the shut off valve on large tank sediment bowl. Small gas tank shut off is good. Snugged up the shaft retainer, but still leaks. Next I tried removing the shaft, but it does not appear to be removable. Is there a packing rope available that fits between the nut and the bowl around the shaft, or is there another way to seal it up?
