I have 1976 GMC K25 4X4 with a stroked 350 i.e. 383 whcih put out 400 hp and 430 ft lbs on dyno. Rebuilt the transmission and transfer case and many other new parts for $12,000.00 including cost of the truck. As much or more power than a stock 454 and it is much lighter. I love 70s GMC/Chevy trucks. You can get virtually every part for them from Classic Industries or LMC, or Chevy Duty. If you want torque, and you do, stroke your 350. Check out Speedomotive. GMC has a "High Torque" 383 roller engine for $ 3,900 from Scoggins Dickey, Summit, or Jegs. I would have got one except I still have to pass smog here in the People's Republic of California.
