The main thing with snowmobiles is the track, make sure thats in good shape and doesn't have any rotten spots from the machine setting on the ground somewheres for awhile. You'd also want to know who owned it previously and what that machine had been though, one that has been raced and recklessly driven isn't worth very much in my book. Take a good look at everything and look for stuff thats been bent or broken up front which is something that happens from the machine getting jumped or they hit a tree with it etc... I would say the 500 would get alot better fuel economy than a 700. I had a friend with a 700 who complained about how much he loved the machine, but it consumed enormous amounts of fuel.
