Okey dokey, here's the short version: On the clutch housing, on the mag side of the engine, at about the 4 oclock position as viewed from the rear of the tractor, there is a hole. Through this hole, you can view the timing marks on the flywheel, and put the engine on TDC for #1 cylinder (the front one). You may want to have the valve cover off so you can check the valves and doublecheck to see that the engine is indeed at TDC for #1. Take the four bolts out of the bottom of the mag that hold it to the mount, and the two bolts out of the coupler. Stick a finish nail through the oil cup on the top of the coupler end on the mag to hold the impulse pawl out of the way, take the distributor cover off the other end and position the mag rotor so it points to the #1 plug wire, which should be the lower left (closest to the block). Set the mag back on the mount, and eyeball the holes in the coupler, and without moving it, put the two small bolts back into the coupler on whichever two holes line up. Bolt it down and wire it up. Pop the points cover off, and roll the engine over until the points are on the highest part of the cam, set the point gap to about .020 This should put you close enough to get it to start and run. The trick is that the holes on the coupler are NOT equally spaced, which allows you to pick another set and advance or retard the mag slightly. After you get it running, you can tweak it based on how it runs at the initial setting. Hope this helps. If you have more questions on timing the mag, feel free to email me. If you have questions regarding repairing the mag itself, I can't be much help, other then to mention a couple of places to send it off to. Paul
